Statham is a city located in Barrow County, Georgia, United States. According to the latest census in 2010, the population was 2,408. It has a total area of 3.4 square miles and is located approximately 13 miles west of Athens.
Statham was incorporated on December 20, 1892, and was originally named Jug Tavern because of a local establishment that served drinks in jugs. The name was later changed to Statham in honor of the president of the Seaboard Airline Railroad.
The city offers a small-town atmosphere with local shops, restaurants, and events such as the annual Sunflower Festival. The public education system in Statham is served by the Barrow County School District and includes Statham Elementary School, Bear Creek Middle School, and Winder-Barrow High School.
